Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of MapBuilder (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

MapBuilder is a platform for creating and sharing community maps that people can contribute places, photos, and information to. We may add, change, or remove features at any time.

2. Accounts

You need an account to create and manage maps. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate information and be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction (and at least 13 years old).

3. Your content

You retain ownership of the maps, places, text, images, and other content you submit ("Your Content"). By submitting Your Content, you grant MapBuilder a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute it for the purpose of operating and promoting the Service. You are responsible for Your Content and represent that you have the rights necessary to submit it and that it does not infringe the rights of others.

4. Community maps and contributions

Maps on the Service may be open for others to contribute to. As a map owner you are responsible for moderating contributions to your map and may remove content that is off-topic, inaccurate, or inappropriate. Contributions made by others remain the responsibility of those contributors.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

• violate any law or the rights of others, including intellectual property, privacy, and publicity rights;
• post content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, defamatory, or excessively violent or sexual;
• impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation;
• collect or store other users' personal data without permission;
• interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its systems;
• use the Service for spam, unsolicited advertising, or other purposes it is not intended for.

6. Intellectual property

The Service itself, including its software, design, and brand, is owned by MapBuilder or its licensors and is protected by law. Except for Your Content, you may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service without permission.

7. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, and we are not responsible for content posted by users.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, MapBuilder will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including any rights you may have as a consumer.

9. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect the Service or other users. You may delete your account, and we may delete content associated with terminated accounts.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan, and any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Japan, except where applicable mandatory law provides otherwise.
